Cole Ostendorf a student at Anoka Ramsey Coon Rapids was nominated and recently won an award for his role as a highly respected leader and for being involved with many things on campus.
“I honestly didn’t know I was even nominated, or what this award was about until I discovered I won. It was an amazing feeling that people saw me as the best candidate, I was honored to be nominated for this award,” said Ostendorf.
The Mark M. Welter World Citizen award is given to students who show compassion on and off campus, and that show respect and courtesy towards the earth and the people on it. Twenty MnSCU students are chosen for this award and are given $500 scholarship money that can be used towards tuition, books and fees toward the 2015-16 school year. Ostendorf, one of the lucky winners, was happy to learn that he won this award alongside 19 other students from different MnSCU schools.
“I was astonished. I am involved in many different things on campus but I didn’t know I would get recognized for it,” Ostendorf said.
Ostendorf is an active student government member, voicing his opinions and actions on campus towards rights that students deserve an need. He is also a Green dot member and was president of their club last year.
“In green dot the members and I worked hard for diversity and tuition. We also dealt with other issues that arise on campus,” said Ostendorf.
If you want to get involved but are stressed with academics, Ostendorf’s biggest advice is to get down to the student government area.
“Come down to our office, the government office. We are here to listen and help, everyone should get involved some way on their campus without hassle,” Ostendorf said.
