Wed. Jan. 28: RAMS LOSE
Riverland 84 ARCC 82
The Rams could not hold on to secure a win in Austin, MN against Riverland Community College last Wednesday. After jumping out to a quick lead, ARCC could not expand it anymore. The score stayed close the entire game and that was what hurt the Rams in the end.
Closing out the first half the Rams were up by one point. Later in the game, Riverland found themselves ahead by some and thought they were going to stretch it out for the win. Back came the Rams as they tied it up at 80. Then referees called a technical foul on Rams’ Trenton Pollard layup, in favor of Riverland. They capitalized and hit both of free throws. Pollard came right back and hit two free throws of his own. On Riverland’s last possession of the game they hit a jumper with about 2 seconds left to play and Pollard’s quick return, three-point attempt would prove not to be a miracle. The Rams held this one out but could not complete the win. Justin Casey ended with 30 points and seven rebounds. Pollard had 17 points and seven steals. The men’s team will be alongside the women as they both seek a win in a re-match against Riverland on Feb. 21.
Sat. Jan. 31: RAMS WIN
ARCC 73 Minnesota State 39
Right after the women blew the Minnesota State Spartans out of the water the men jumped on board doing the exact same thing. There was no high scorer in this game though as this was a complete team effort. ARCC had a good lead going into halftime up 29 to 13.
To begin the second half, nothing was falling. A few minutes into the half Justin Casey started to do his thing underneath the hoop. The Spartans did not even make a basket in the second half until almost five minutes in. Right after that the Rams started to heat up as they would consistently drive-in, get fouled, and convert their free throws to points. Trenton Pollard found the net a few times and after making one of his layups he had hit the 1,000 point mark of his career. The Rams called for a timeout as the announcer told everyone loud and clear the momentous news for Pollard. With eight minutes left in the game ARCC was up by 30 and slowed everything down from there. Joel McFall had a nice game after he made two three-pointers coming off of the bench. Pollard led the team with 13 points, as he will look to keep things going Feb. 4 against St. Cloud Tech.
